Create chaos and use the mayhem to take power. What’s scary is this may work.
The riots in Paris over the weekend saw several government buildings torched and over 2,000 people arrested. Violent protests have now spread to Brussels and Milan.
Why are Europeans so angry? Our friends at the excellent Eurointelligence newsletter say all of this is connected to Europe’s stagnant economy:
Without growth, European governments cannot do what they need to do: invest in schools, technology, and defense, or maintain social stability, law and order, and stay solvent.
The economic performance of the core-Euro area has been dismal for an entire decade. This is not a cyclical downswing, but a structural slump. Europe has entered the zero productivity growth zone. This is why, at a given level of government expenditure, public borrowing is rising. To contain the rise in borrowing, governments are cutting back on investment. It is the worst kind of austerity, and it accumulates. It is why Germany’s train system is no longer working. Or French schools. What we are seeing in Europe are early signs of state failure.
Amazingly, only 20 years ago the U.S. and the EU had the same size economy. Look at what Euro-socialism has done:
